Latinx Student Psychological Association

About

The Latinx Student Psychological Association (LSPA) is a graduate student organization at the University of Michigan that strives to increase the recruitment and retention of Latinx students in the fields of psychology. As such, LSPA’s mission is threefold: to provide a supportive and diverse learning environment for its graduate student members, to serve as advocates for the Latinx community, and to educate the greater academic community on issues that affect Latinx and other ethnic minority groups. Throughout the year, LSPA holds several events for its members and for the larger campus and Latinx community, including lectures.

Although a Latinx-oriented psychology organization existed briefly in the 1980's it became defunct a few years later. In 1996, a group of students who believed in the importance of creating a supportive community for Latinx students formed The Latinx Student Psychological Association, which has been active since then.

Membership is open to graduate students, faculty, and staff at the University of Michigan who self-identify as Latinx and/or are committed to supporting the Latino community. LSPA invites participation from all members of the University of Michigan community and abides by the University of Michigan's non-discrimination policy.
