Calisthenics at the University of Michigan
About
Calisthenics is the art of using one's own bodyweight to achieve muscle growth and strength. Unlike weight training, which relies on adding weights to progress in strength, calisthenics users advance by gradually removing leverage from movements (e.g. two-arm pull-up to supported one-arm pull-up to one-arm pull-up). Masters of calisthenics can do advanced movements such as front levers, back levers, muscle-ups, human flags, and one-arm pull-ups.
Right now, calisthenics is rapidly gaining popularity through groups such as Barstarzz, Calisthenics Unity, Calisthenic Movement, and TheNX. Additionally, various street workout competitions exist for calisthenics masters to test their skills against one another.
Our goal is to provide a group for the calisthenics practitioners of UMich to progress in their training together by offering tips, advice, and personal support. This is a very laid back group, so feel free to come check us out! Shoot Peifu or Freddie an email if you have any questions.
