Parent Organization: University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)

Students Organizing Against Prisons (SOAP) is an organization of University of Michigan students committed to raising awareness and mobilizing student support for local and statewide campaigns to abolish the prison industrial complex (PIC). We recognize the PIC as a system of social control that reinforces the subjugation of marginalized communities in the interest of those with social, economic and political power. We work with organizations and campaigns whose agendas are set by the incarcerated and those communities that are disproportionately impacted by the PIC. We do not believe that reform of the PIC will lead to justice, rather we are committed to a world free of the PIC
